The Mountain Hua (华山) is one of the China's 5 great sacred mountains, these mountains scatter throughout China, each direction and the middle of 4 directions make it whole. Mountain Hua is also called Western Great Mountain because of its location. It's home to many Buddhism and Taoism temples, the cultural significance of Moutain Hua goes without saying too much. Many great people in the past have climbed up and left their calligraphy carved into the rock faces.
The Sky Walk on top of it was the scariest thing I have ever done in my life, where you are literally walking by the cliff with all the safety equipment attached to you, it was tricky but safe...
I was told by the travelers I met at the hostel that climbing up the Mountain Hua at night was pretty fun, and I did it. Me and my friends, getting up in the middle of the night, bringing the food and packs we prepared earlier that day in the afternoon, and then we set off. The reason we did the night hike was to see the sunrise when we arrived at the top. But it requires a lot of physical hiking, and it may take up to 8 hours to hike from the very bottom to the top. Cable cars are available to use if you are not a heavy hiker.
It is known that the roads up to the top in Hua Mountain are very steep, but the iron chains on both sides of the hiking paths give tourists a real good hold when they walk up. Because there's a lot of tourists want to do the night hike in Mountain Hua that the local government has built lamp posts and lights every 20 or 30 meters or so to make sure it's safe to climb at night, 2 thumbs up for the local government, they made Hua Mountain friendly to tourists, especially, night hikers. Check out more photos posted above from the tricky Sky Walk. Don't you want to give it a shot?
There are East, South, West and North, 4 peaks on the top, not very far from each other. After the sunrise, my friends from the hostel and I, we walked around a bit on the top of Mountain Hua, trying to cover each peak and then we started heading downhill at about 3:00 pm in the afternoon, arrived at the bottom about 7:00. Had a great fun night and a perfect day hiking in Mountain Hua.
